How to Configure Web Subscriptions on an OSE-extended Web

Maintaining Office Server Extensions

On the Configure Web Subscription Settings page, you have several options to configure user subscriptions. The Configure Web Subscription Settings page is accessible from the Microsoft Office Server Extensions (OSE) Administration Home Page.

To open the Web Subscription Settings page

  1. If you are logged on locally to the Web server with OSE installed, click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Office Server Extensions, and then click OSE Administrator (HTML).

    – or –

If you are connecting remotely to the Web server with OSE installed, enter the following URL in your Web browser:

    http://site_name/msoffice/msoadmin/

where site_name is the name of the OSE-extended web.

When you are connected to the OSE Administrator Home Page, you see the name of the server you are connected to at the bottom of the configuration and management pages.

  2. Click Configure Web Subscription Settings.

Note    The OSE Administration Home Page can be viewed only with Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.0 or later, or Netscape Navigator version 3.0 or later.

Enable or disable Web Subscriptions

On the Configure Web Subscription Settings page, you can enable or disable all Web Subscriptions.

To enable or disable Web Subscriptions

  1. Next to Web Subscriptions are, click On to enable Web Subscriptions.

    – or –

Click Off to disable Web Subscriptions.

  2. Click Submit.

Note    If you disable Web Subscriptions, any changes you make to other Web Subscriptions settings are not saved when you click Submit.

Specify the SMTP mail server

When you enter the name of your Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) mail server on the Configure Web Subscription Settings page, use the fully qualified domain name (FQDN). If you are using WINS on your network, you can also enter the computer name without the leading double backslashes (\\).

Correct Incorrect
Mail.company.com company.com
SMTP1 \\SMTP1

To specify an SMTP mail server

  1. In the SMTP Mail Server box, type the name of the mail server.
  2. Click Submit.

Define intervals for e-mail notifications

Subscribers choose to receive e-mail notifications when documents change. They also select when they want to receive the e-mail notifications. Subscribers can receive e-mail notifications at one of the following time intervals:

  • When a change occurs
  • Once a day
  • Once a week

On the Configure Web Subscription Settings page, you define the details of the time intervals for sending e-mail notifications.

To define the details of e-mail notification intervals

  1. Scroll to the Times to Send Document Change Notifications section of the Configure Web Subscription Settings page.
  2. In the Immediate notifications every x minutes box, enter a value for x.
  3. In the Daily notifications at box, enter a time of day.
  4. In the Weekly notifications on box, enter a day of the week, and time of day.
  5. Click Submit.

Note    The Office Server Extensions Notification Service caches the notification times. When you click Submit, the service automatically stops and then restarts so that the new times are read. The service might be unable to stop if it is busy processing notification records. In this case, try to stop and restart the service manually by using Services in Control Panel.
