Customize a note flag

Microsoft Office OneNote 2003 comes with five predefined note flags, and you can customize all available note flags by creating your own labels for them and choosing icons and colors.

For example, you can create a flag called "Midterm" and use it to flag items in your class notes that your teacher has said will be on the next midterm examination. Other ideas for naming note flags include "Meeting Minutes," "Homework," "Look up in dictionary," "Things to buy," and people's names.

Note  When you customize a note flag, the changes do not affect notes that are already flagged.

  1. On the Format menu, point to Note Flags, and then click Customize My Note Flags.
  2. In the Current note flags list, click the note flag you want to customize, and then click Modify.
  3. Do any of the following:
    • To customize the label of the note flag, type a new name in the Display name box.
    • To customize the formatting of the note flag, make selections for Symbol, Font Color, and Highlight Color.
  4. Confirm your formatting selections in the Preview box.

Notes

  • To immediately use a note flag that you have customized, select it on the Note Flags submenu of the Format menu. Only predefined and customized note flags are available from the Note Flags menu and toolbar.
  • Use the arrow buttons in the Customize My Note Flags task pane to associate keyboard shortcuts (CTRL+1 through CTRL+9) with note flags that you use most often.
