Link an audio or video recording to notes

To record audio or video with Microsoft Office OneNote 2003, Microsoft DirectX 9.0a or later and Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 Series are required.

  1. To link the recording to your notes, click anywhere on the page.
  2. On the Standard toolbar, click the arrow next to the Record button, and then click either Record Audio Only or Record Video.

A time stamp is placed on the page.

  3. Start taking notes.
  4. When you are finished recording, click Stop Button image on the Audio and Video Recording toolbar.

The .wma files created by recording linked audio and the .wmv files created by recording linked video are stored in the folder that contains the section in which you made the recording.

Notes

  • Some of the features or functionality described in this topic are available only if you have installed Microsoft Office OneNote 2003 Service Pack 1. To learn more about the service pack and how to download it, see Service pack features in OneNote 2003.
  • If OneNote is not running, you can begin to record audio notes right away by right-clicking the OneNote icon in the notification area, at the far right of the Windows taskbar, and then clicking Start Recording Audio.
  • If you choose Record Audio Only, OneNote records the audio as a .wma file. If you choose Record Video, OneNote includes both the video and audio in the .wmv file, as long as a microphone is connected to the computer or is available as part of the camera. After you have recorded the video (.wmv) file, you cannot separate the audio recording from it. For example, you cannot share only the video or the sound if you choose Record Video.
