About sharing audio or video notes with others

You can share the audio and video recordings you take with Microsoft Office OneNote 2003 with others, whether they have OneNote installed or not.

Note  Some of the features or functionality described in this topic are available only if you have installed Microsoft Office OneNote 2003 Service Pack 1. To learn more about the service pack and how to download it, see Service pack features in OneNote 2003.

The easiest way to share an audio or video recording is by sending the notes that contain the recording in an e-mail message. You can share your notes directly from OneNote by using the e-mail feature, which requires Microsoft Office Outlook 2003.

To listen to shared audio recordings or to view shared video recordings, recipients must do the following:

  • Have Microsoft Windows Media Player installed on their computer. The media player comes installed with the Microsoft Windows operating system. For best results, use Microsoft DirectX 9.0a or later and Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 or later for recording and playback of audio and video notes.
  • Save both the .one file and the Windows Media Player file (.wma for audio or .wmv for video) to the same location.

In addition to sharing your audio and video notes as an e-mail attachment, you can share them in the following ways:

  • Save your notes to a Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services Web site or other network location. When you publish your .one file to these locations, the audio files are automatically included.
  • Share the audio or video recording by sending only the .wma or .wmv file. This is especially useful if the person you want to share the recording with does not have OneNote installed and cannot open the .one file.
