About sharing notes with other Microsoft Office programs

You can share your Microsoft Office OneNote 2003 notes with other Microsoft Office programs, including Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 and Microsoft Office Word 2003. In addition to working directly with these two programs, you can also copy and paste content between OneNote and any other Microsoft Office programs.

Note  Some of the features or functionality described in this topic are available only if you have installed Microsoft Office OneNote 2003 Service Pack 1. To learn more about the service pack and how to download it, see Service pack features in OneNote 2003.

When you paste content into OneNote, you can use the Paste Options Button image command to decide how to format the pasted content.

Note  OneNote does not use a table (table: One or more rows of cells commonly used to display numbers and other items for quick reference and analysis. Items in a table are organized into rows and columns.) format that can be copied and pasted into Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel. Likewise, if you copy a table from Word or Excel, and then paste it into OneNote, the table contents will be pasted as text and the table formatting may be lost.

ShowTip

If you take notes by using handwriting on a Tablet PC (Tablet PC: A computer that runs Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition. With a Tablet PC, you can write directly on the screen by using a tablet pen and use the pen to perform mouse functions. Also known as a tablet computer.), convert your handwritten notes into typed text before copying the text to another program. It is a good idea to do this if you want to incorporate your handwritten notes into a more formal document, such as a Word document or a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation.

Sharing notes with Microsoft Office Outlook 2003

With OneNote, you can send a page of your notes as an e-mail message in Outlook. The page is sent as a .one file attachment, and is also included in the body of the e-mail message. This allows you to send your notes to users who do not have OneNote installed on their computer. If the recipient of your e-mail message has OneNote installed on their computer, the file is automatically added to the Notes E-mailed to Me folder in their own notebook when they open the file attached to the message.

You can also create and send Outlook tasks or appointments directly from OneNote.

Sharing notes with Microsoft Office Word 2003

You can export a OneNote page as a Word document. For example, you can export the outline for a research paper from OneNote to Word, and then add additional details in Word to complete the paper. When exported, the text and images in your OneNote notes are formatted as inline text and images.
