Customize how other programs send information to OneNote

By default, clicking the Send to OneNote button in other 2007 Microsoft Office system programs or in Windows Internet Explorer creates a new page in Office OneNote in a special section called Unfiled Notes.

You can change the default setting and specify where OneNote should store your Web notes, e-mail messages, and content from other documents and files. You can also set separate options for capturing Web notes and for using the OneNote print driver for importing content from other sources.

Change the default location for Web notes

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. In the Options dialog box, click Send to OneNote in the Category list.
  3. Under Web notes, do one of the following:
    • To have Web notes sent to a new page in a specific section of a specific notebook, click New page in section, and then browse to the notebook path and section file where you want the page created.
    • To have Web notes sent to a new page in the section that is currently open, click New page in the current section.
    • To have Web notes sent to the page that is currently open, click On the current page.

Change the default location for "printouts"

The OneNote print driver lets you send information from any computer file to a page in your OneNote notebook as if you were "printing" it to that page instead of sending it to an actual printer.

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. In the Options dialog box, click Send to OneNote in the Category list.
  3. Under Printouts, do one of the following:
    • To have files printed to a new page in a specific section of a specific notebook, click New page in section, and then browse to the notebook path and section file where the pages should be created.
    • To have files printed to a new page in the section that is currently open, click New page in the current section.
    • To have files printed to the page that is currently open, click On the current page.
