You can quickly open a miniature Microsoft Office OneNote 2003 window whenever you want to take some quick notes on the side, while working in other programs. To quickly open a side note, right-click the OneNote icon in the notification area (at the far right of the taskbar), and then click Open New Side Note.
Note The OneNote icon is automatically added to the notification area the first time you run OneNote.
To open a window for taking side notes, right-click the OneNote icon in the notification area.
The side note window is a miniature version of the OneNote window and can be resized as needed.
Notes entered in side notes are automatically saved in the Side Notes section of your notebook.
You can switch quickly from the miniature window to the fully functional OneNote window by dragging a corner of the miniature window to enlarge it or by maximizing the window. You can keep side note windows on top of other windows, so you can easily copy and paste content from other programs onto the OneNote page. On the Side Note toolbar, click Keep Window on Top .
The Side Note toolbar also includes buttons for flagging notes, capturing screen clippings, and recording audio and video clips while you take notes.
Note If you want to start up the miniature window so that you are recording linked audio right away, right-click the OneNote icon in the notification area, and then click Start Recording Audio.
Notes that you jot down in side note windows are saved in the Side Notes section of your notebook, so you can view and edit them again later, and arrange them with the other pages in your notebook. The Side Notes section in your notebook is created for you the first time you open the window to create a side note, and OneNote creates a new page in the Side Notes section in your notebook every time you open the miniature window.
The side note pages are not titled. Instead, text on the page appears on the page tab. You can move the pages and the notes you create in this window the same way you rearrange any content of your notebook.
- You can specify whether the OneNote icon should be shown in the notification area. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then in the Category list, click Other. Select or clear the Place OneNote icon in the notification area of the taskbar check box.
