Microsoft Partners

It is important that you read and complete the following steps before filling out the online application. Please note that Microsoft reserves the right to accept or reject, in its sole discretion, any application for a listing on the Microsoft Office Live Marketplace and may change the requirements for a listing at any time. In addition to the considerations listed below, Microsoft will also evaluate the overall fit of your product or service to Microsoft's own business strategy to determine the appropriateness of your listing on the Microsoft Office Live Marketplace.

Here are the steps

Assess your fit

Your company, and product or service must meet ALL of the following criteria:

  1. Are you a Microsoft Partner?     The Microsoft Office Live Marketplace is only open to Microsoft Partners. If you are not a Microsoft Partner, then enroll today.
  2. Is your product or service consistent with Microsoft's Trustworthy Computing Principles?
    • Privacy     Customers' personal information is never disclosed in unauthorized ways. When customers provide personal information to your site or service, you inform them clearly of what will and will not be done with that information, and they can be sure that you will do what you promise.
    • Security     You can assure customers that a virus will not infect and crash their computers. An intruder cannot render their systems unusable or make unauthorized alterations to their data.
    • Reliability     When customers install new software, they don't have to worry about whether it will work properly with their existing applications.
    • Business     Integrity You respond rapidly and effectively when customers report a problem.
  3. Is your product or service relevant to Microsoft Office Live customers?     Your offering should help customers improve their business productivity using Microsoft Office Live, and it must meet AT LEAST ONE of the following requirements:
    • Requires a Microsoft Office Live subscription for use.
    • Provides training or support resources related to Microsoft Office Live.
    • Provides consulting or Web design services that are specialized in Microsoft Office Live.
  4. Can your product or service be fulfilled or delivered online to any customer in the U.S.?     Your business should offer a Web site through which Microsoft Office Live customers can receive your product and/or learn about your service. Additionally, your site must provide contact information (physical location and phone number).
  5. Is customer support available?     Your company must provide customer service (online or over the phone) and easy-to-use help content.
  6. Does your product or service work with the latest version of Microsoft Office Live?     Your product or service must work with the latest version of Microsoft Office Live within six months of the release of that version.
  7. Is this product fully tested and reliable?     Your product or service must provide an excellent customer experience. Also, the Web site where the product or service can be purchased and where customer support can be accessed must perform with 99% uptime.
  8. Are your product title(s), domain name, and company name in compliance with Microsoft trademarks?     Your application must meet the guidelines for proper referential use of the Microsoft trademarks and names. Review the Microsoft Referential Use Guidelines before you apply.

Create your jump page and prepare your listing details

Almost there! Before you submit a new listing request, you must first prepare the following information.

Important   Your compliance with these guidelines enables us to review and process your application faster.

Create a jump page

You must create a unique Web page that the Microsoft Office Live Marketplace's provider directory will send customers to when they click your company's listing from within the directory. This Web page must be hosted on your servers.

Your jump page must meet all of the following requirements:

  1. Works with Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.0 or later.
  2. Lists the product or service name prominently.
  3. Clearly indicates customer support contact information.
  4. Clearly indicates the pricing of the product or service.
  5. Provides clear instructions on using the product.
  6. Highlights the integration of your product or service with Microsoft Office Live.
  7. Presents proper referential use of the Microsoft trademarks and names. Review the Microsoft Referential Use Guidelines to verify that you have used appropriate naming on your jump page.

Submit your Product or Service listing in Microsoft Partner Solution Profiler

Your listing in the Microsoft Office Live Marketplace is based on the information you enter in the Microsoft Partner Solution Profiler. Please follow the steps provided on the Partner Solution Profiler submission pages to create your listing. Below is some additional information to be aware of when you create your listing.

 Notes

  • Only Microsoft Partners have access the Partner Solution Profiler. If you are not a Microsoft Partner, then enroll today!
  • If you are new Microsoft Partner, your listing posted to the Partner Solution Profiler will not appear until 24 hours after you have enrolled in the Microsoft Partner Program.

Write a product or service title

Your title is the name of your product or service as it will appear in the Microsoft Office Live Marketplace directory. If the name is very long, consider shortening it to a briefer but still accurate title. You will have room in the full description to list the full product or service name.

Write a short summary description of your offering

The first 80 words of your product or service listing in the Partner Solution Profiler will appear with your company name and solution/service title on category and search pages. It is a good idea, then, to treat the first 80 words as a summary description of your product or services. Follow these guidelines:

  • Do not include your company name or product/service title (they will be listed above the description).
  • Clearly explain the value proposition of the product or service.
  • Be factual rather than "sales-oriented." Use nouns and action-oriented verbs. Avoid adjectives and subjective comparisons, which give listings an overt sales tone. (Our experience is that factual service descriptions receive more customer visits than overtly sales-oriented descriptions.)
  • Use sentence capitalization. (In other words, capitalize only the first word and proper nouns.)

Example of good summary description:

Make life easier for your staff and your customers by managing your restaurant’s reservations right from your desk with Contoso Online Reservations.

Write a full description

The full description appears on the page customers see when they click your product/service title to learn more. It will include the summary description defined above. Follow these guidelines:

  • Expand on the messaging you use in the summary description. Make it descriptive and compelling, but use factual rather than overtly sales-oriented words and language. Clearly explain the value proposition of the product or service and how it integrates with Microsoft Office Live. Use nouns and quantifiable facts about your product or service, and avoid adjectives and subjective comparisons, which give listings an overt sales tone. (Again, factual service descriptions receive more customer clicks than sales-oriented descriptions.)
  • Mention your company name and the full name of the product or service.
  • Be sure to include in your summary and full descriptions keywords that customers are likely to use in their search queries. The search initiated from anywhere on Microsoft Office Live queries all text in your title, summary description, and full description.

Example of a good long description:

Make life easier for your staff and your customers by managing your restaurant’s reservations right from your desk with Contoso Online Reservations.

Contoso Online Reservation from Contoso, Ltd. lets your customers request reservations from your Home Page on Microsoft Office Live and then lets you manage them from your Microsoft Office Live workspaces. Automatic updates to your customer facing reservation page allow customers to see what tables are available on any given night and make a reservation even when no one in the restaurant is available to answer the phone. Your staff can use the management process in your Microsoft Office Live workspace allows to identify the seating pattern for the night and better prepare for that evening’s rush.

Identify the right category for your service or product

On the second page of the Microsoft Partner Solution Profile form, you will be asked to affiliate your solution with a Microsoft product. Please expand the Microsoft Office Live category by clicking on the plus symbol (+) and select the category that is most appropriate for your solution:

  • Business Solutions     Branded products or solutions that you create and market for Microsoft Office Live
  • Custom Development & Consulting     Customize a customer’s existing Microsoft Office Live environment, or create a one-off solution based on their specific needs
  • Setup & Support     Get a customer up and running on Microsoft Office Live and/or provide personal support to them for their Microsoft Office Live subscription
  • Training     Show customers how to use and get the most from their Microsoft Office Live subscription
  • Website Development     Design Web sites for customers using either the tool provided with their account or HTML editors such as Microsoft Expression.

Be sure that you identify the right category for your service or product. If you do not see a category that exactly fits your listing, pick the closest one. You will be asked for this information when you submit the listing in the Partner Solution Profiler. If you believe we should include an additional category, e-mail us at olmrkt@microsoft.com. When new categories are added, you may edit your listing in the Partner Solution Profiler.

You will need all the information requested in Step 2 to complete your application.
