Office 2003 Service Pack 3 Administrative Template (ADM) Files, OPA Files, and Explain Text Updates

The download for Microsoft® Office 2003 Service Pack 3 (SP3) (ORKSP3AT.exe) provides updated Group Policy Administrative Template (ADM) files, updated Office Customization Tool OPA files, and an updated Microsoft Office Excel workbook (Office 2003 Group Policies.xls) that provides information about the policy settings included in the various ADM and OPA files. It supports changes to the Office 2003 SP3 policy settings.

The following table lists the ADM files that have been updated for Office 2003 SP3.

ADM file Application
Excel11.adm Microsoft Office Excel® 2003
Ppt11.adm Microsoft Office PowerPoint® 2003
Word11.adm Microsoft Office Word® 2003

The download includes two Excel workbooks that you can use to help you plan configurations of Office 2003 applications for users:

  • Office 2003 Group Policies.xls. A Microsoft Office Excel 2003 workbook that documents the large number of options that you can use to configure Office 2003 applications. The workbook provides an explanation of each Office Group Policy setting and Custom Installation Wizard (CIW) user setting available, and includes additional information such as the range of possible values and the registry key associated with the Group Policy or CIW setting. Most of these policy settings and CIW settings can be used to preset specific options in the user interface of Office applications, and in those cases the associated user interface option is identified. The Overview worksheet describes the information available in the workbook.
  • Office 2003 UI Options.xls. A Microsoft Office Excel 2003 workbook that documents the options available to users in the user interface of Office 2003 applications. The spreadsheet provides information for each option such as the default value and the range of possible values. If there is an Office Group Policy setting or CIW user setting that can be used to configure the option, that setting is identified as well. The Overview worksheet describes the information available in the workbook.

You can use these workbooks to help you decide how you want to configure Office for users. Office 2003 UI Options.xls allows you to browse through user options without having to run each application and cycle through menu commands. You can use Office 2003 Group Policies.xls to quickly scan all the available Office Group Policy settings and CIW user settings without having to walk through the tree structure of the Group Policy Object Editor Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in or the user interface of the CIW.
