Let's start and quit Outlook

Let's start Outlook

To use Outlook, look for the Outlook icon in the Start menu and click it.

Start Outlook using the following steps.

  1. Display the Start menu.

    Click the Start button (Start button).

  2. Look for the Outlook icon.

    Select All Programs

    Select Outlook

    Point to All Programs. Next, point to Microsoft Office, and then click Microsoft Office Outlook 2007.

    Tip: To start Outlook

    Doctor Depending on the settings on your computer, E-mail is displayed in the Start menu and the Outlook icon (Outlook icon) is displayed in the taskbar.

    In this case, click E-mail or Icon to start Outlook.

  3. The startup screen is displayed, and Outlook starts.

Tip: The first time you start Outlook

Doctor The first time you start Outlook, the Microsoft Software License Agreement is sometimes displayed.

In this case, read the license agreement carefully and click the I Accept button.

 Note   If you are using a boxed edition, the screen and its operation might be different.

Tip: Privacy Options and Register with Microsoft Update

Doctor The first time that you start Outlook, the Privacy Options screen and Register with Microsoft Update screen might be displayed.

You can specify whether you want to check for help or update programs via the Internet in the Privacy Options screen.

Register with Microsoft Update screen

You can specify whether or not to automatically apply update programs to your software via the Internet in the Register with Microsoft Update screen.

ShowIf the "Outlook 2007 Startup" wizard is displayed when you start Outlook  

The Outlook 2007 Startup wizard might be displayed the first time you start Outlook.

In this window, you can set up the Internet connection and other settings necessary to use e-mail.

In this example, the steps for setting up an e-mail account when your Internet Service Provider supports Auto Account Setup is explained.

Let's complete the set up using the following steps.

  1. Start the setup.

    Click the Next button.

  2. Set up the e-mail account.

    Check that Yes is selected, and then click the Next button.

  3. Set up the e-mail account.

    Type in the e-mail account and password provided by your Internet Service Provider.

    When you have filled in all the items, click the Next button.

    Tip: When entering an e-mail account

    Doctor When typing in E-mail Address, Password, and Retype Password, full-width and half-width characters are distinguished.
  4. A connection to the network is started automatically.

    Click the Finish button.

    Now, you can use e-mail.

    Tip: If the automatic setup does not work

    Doctor If your Internet Service Provider does not support Auto Account Setup or you are using Outlook at work, using the automatic setup might not work.
    Other cases are explained in the next lesson.

Let's quit Outlook

Let's quit Outlook using the following steps.

  1. Click the Close button in the upper right of the Outlook window.

    Close

    Click the Close button button.

  2. Outlook quits.

Tip: What if I click the Minimize button button by mistake?

Doctor If you click the Minimize button button, which is near the Close button button by mistake, the Outlook window disappears, but Outlook does not quit.

Task Bar

To show the Outlook window again, click the button displaying the "Outlook Today or the "Inbox" icons (Outlook icons) in the task bar.

Tip: If the Outlook icon is displayed in the task tray

Doctor When you click the Minimize button button, sometimes the Outlook icon is displayed in the task tray in the lower right of the window.

Double-click the icon (Outlook icon) to display the Outlook window again.
