Let's send an e-mail

Here, you'll use Outlook to send an e-mail.

  1. In the left Navigation Pane, click Mail, and then click New.

    The window for entering a new message is displayed.

  2. In the To box, type in the name of the person who you want to send the e-mail to.

    Tip: When I started to type in the e-mail address, text appeared!

    When you start to type in an e-mail address, previously entered e-mail addresses are displayed. If you have created a "contact" in Outlook, the registered name and e-mail address are both displayed.
    You can enter the displayed name in the To box by clicking it.

  3. Let's type in a title in the Subject box and the body of the message in the message field.

Types of e-mail formatting

In Outlook, you can change the size of the text in the body of the e-mail, change the color of the text, and format the e-mail.
The text formatting is primarily found in Basic Text on the Message tab of the Ribbon.

See the table below for the names and roles of the buttons displayed in the Ribbon. Let's combine them and try to format an e-mail.

Button Name Role
Font Font Changes the font.
Font Size Font Size Changes the size of the text.
Grow Font Grow Font Makes the text larger.
Shrink Font Shrink Font Makes the text smaller.
Bullets Bullets Adds a bullet at the beginning of the text to start a bulleted list.
Numbering Numbering Adds a number at the beginning of the text to start a numbered list.
Clear Formatting Clear Formatting Clears all formatting for the selected text, leaving only the plain text.
Bold Bold Makes the selected text bold.
Italic Italic Italicizes the selected text.
Underline Underline Draws a line under the selected text.
Text Highlight Color Text Highlight Color Make text look like it was marked with a highlighter pen.
Font Color Font Color Changes the text color.
Align Text Left Align Text Left Aligns the text to the left.
Center Center Centers the text.
Align Right Align Right Aligns the text to the right.
Distributed Distributed Aligns the text to the left and right margins of the page. If necessary, the space between the characters is adjusted.
Decrease Indent Decrease Indent Decreases the indent level of the paragraph.
Increase Indent Increase Indent Increases the indent level of the paragraph.

Tip: A Ribbon button can be selected and not selected

Among the buttons used for text formatting, there is the selected (Yellow: Bold (selected) ) and the not selected (the same color as the Ribbon: Bold (not selected) ).

"Selected" means that the feature is applied. By the way, if you change the current position of the cursor, the state of the button for that location is reflected.
