Tip: A Ribbon button can be selected and not selected
Among the buttons used for text formatting, there is the selected (Yellow: ) and the not selected (the same color as the Ribbon: ). You can switch between the two states by clicking the button.
"Selected" means that the feature is applied. By the way, if you change the current position of the cursor, the state of the button for that location is reflected.

Let's format some text
- Open the workbook you saved previously, and select cell "A1".

Practice: The selected cell is called the "active cell".
The selected cell is the "active cell", and the "cell address" is the "You are Here" that indicates the cell's position.
- Type in "Nikko Bus Tour Participant List", and then click the Enter key.

Tip: What if the typed in text disappears!!
If you type text in a cell that is not wide, the typed in text sometimes disappears. However, you can see the text by increasing the width of the cell.
- Position the cursor between column A and column B. When you do so, it turns into a cross. Double-click there.

- The text becomes visible. In Excel, double-clicking adjusts the cell to the appropriate width.

- Select the word "Nikko".

Tip: Change information in a cell
When you select a cell that contains data, the content of the cell is displayed above. This is called the "Formula Bar". Let's remember that name because it shows up a lot from now on.

- From Font, select Arial Black.

- With the word "Nikko" selected, change the color of the text.

- Select the two words "Bus Tour" in the Formula Bar.

- Let's click Bold to select it and change the color.

- The thickness of the text and its color change.

- Select "Participant List" and then change the font and color. Refer to the example shown in the figure below.

In this way, let's try to combine various features to format text. This feature is basic. Practice until you learn it.
