
In Excel, you can enter sequential numbers, dates, and times automatically.
By reading this article, you will learn the basics of how to enter a data series. This article consists of the following three pages.
When you click a cell in the worksheet to select it, a small black square appears in the right lower corner of the selected cell. This square is called the "fill handle".

Using the fill handle, you can enter a data series and quickly copy data.
When you align the cursor with the fill handle, the cursor changes to a black cross (
).
Open the workbook you saved in the previous "Let's create a table" and let's create a data series.

In this example, enter sequential numbers in the "No." column.
- Select the first cell into which you want to enter a data series. In this example, select the first row in "No."

- Enter the first value in the data series. In this example, type in "1" to enter numbers that start from one.

- In the next cell, type in the next value in the data series. Type in "2" because it is the next value after "1".

- Select the cells containing the data series values.

- Drag the
(fill handle) in a downward direction.


- The data series is entered.
