What is the Lync app?
Lync is communication software that businesses and organizations use for IM, voice and video calls, collaboration, and more. If you’re not part of an organization that uses Lync, you won’t be able to use the Lync 2013 app.
Do I use my full sign-in address or just my user name when I sign in?
You should first try signing in by specifying only your Lync sign-in address and password. For example, firstname.lastname@example.org.
Be aware that depending on how your company has configured Lync and the directory service, the directory service user name that you use to authenticate with Lync might differ from your sign-in address. Contact your technical support team for more information.
What’s the format for my user name?
Most users don’t have to enter their organization’s directory service user name because it’s the same as their Lync sign-in address. However, if it’s needed, do one of the following:
If you have a Lync Online 2013 account on Office 365, enter your user name in this format: email@example.com.
If you have a Lync 2013 account, enter your user name in this format: domain\username.
For more information about which type of account you have, contact your technical support team.
Do I need to enter proxy settings?
If you’re behind an authenticated proxy, you’ll need to provide proxy authentication information, as follows.
- From the Sign-in screen, tap Show Advanced Option, the icon on the bottom left, and then tap HTTP Proxy to enter your proxy settings.
When do I need to manually specify an auto-discovery server?
If you can’t sign in you might need to manually specify the auto-discovery server. Contact your technical support team for more information.
I’m trying to sign in to Lync Server 2010 but I have the Lync 2013 app installed
If you’ve installed the Lync 2013 app on your mobile device but are trying to sign in to Lync Server 2010, uninstall the Lync 2013 app and install the Lync 2010 app. From your mobile, go to the Good Play Store, and search for Microsoft Lync 2010 for Android.
How long do I stay signed in on Lync app for Android?
Once you’re signed in you’ll remain signed in while as long as there is connectivity. If connectivity is lost for 30 or more minutes, you’ll be signed out. If you have connectivity but haven’t used the application for 10 days, you’ll be signed out.
Can I install both Lync 2010 for Android and Lync 2013 for Android on the same device?
This is not recommended. If you install both apps, you’ll receive double alerts for incoming calls and IMs. If you’re on February 2013 Cumulative Update for Lync Server 2013 or later, and you’re able to sign in to Lync 2013 for Android, you need to uninstall Lync 2010 for Android app.
