Add a contact in Lync

You can search for contacts in Lync and add them to your Contacts list, either into existing groups or new groups. The changes are automatically synced with your Lync Contacts list on all your devices.

  1. On the Lync home screen, select the Search button.

  1. Type the contact’s name or number in the search box. For a person outside your company, type their e-mail address.

  1. Select the contact’s picture, and then select the button with the three dots.

  1. Do any of the following:
  • To add your contact to the Favorites group, select Add to Favorites.
  • To add your contact to an existing group, select Add to Group, and then select the group you want.
  • To add your contact to a new group, select Add to Group > Create New Group, type a name for the group, and then press Enter.

Delete and manage contacts

When you add a contact, you have the option to assign it to one of the default groups─Favorites or Other Contacts─ or to a new group that you create. You can change this assignment at a later time, if needed, and add existing contacts to a different group and remove them from a current group or from your Contacts list.

  1. On the Lync home screen, select the Contacts tile > the contact’s picture > the button with the three dots.
  2. Do any of the following:
  • To add the contact to the Favorites group, select Add to Favorites.
  • To remove the contact from the Favorites group, select Remove from Favorites.
  • To add the contact to an existing group, select Add to Group, and then select the group you want.
  • To remove the contact from a group, select Remove from Group.
  • To add your contact to a new group, select Add to Group > Create New Group, type a name for the group, and then press Enter.
  • To delete the contact from your Contacts list, select Remove from Contacts list.

 Tip    You can also delete and manage contacts from the side-by-side view, that is, when you “snap” Lync Windows Store app to the side of the screen so that you can work in Lync and other programs at the same time. For details, see Use the side-by-side view.

Manage contact groups

You can’t rename or delete the default groups, but you can rename or remove the custom groups you create.

  1. On the Lync home screen, select the Contacts tile, and then select GROUPS to switch to the Groups view.
  2. Tap and hold the custom group name and then release, or click the custom group name.
  3. To rename the group, select Rename and type a new name.
  4. To delete the group, select Remove.
