Take your Business Contacts with you on your smartphone or Pocket PC

After you have installed Business Contact Manager for Outlook on your computer, you can take your Business Contacts with you by synchronizing them with a smartphone or Pocket PC mobile device.

Install Business Contacts on mobile devices running Windows Mobile 5.0, Windows Mobile 6.0, or Windows Mobile 6.1

Installing Business Contacts for Smartphone or Business Contacts for Pocket PC enables you to keep your Business Contacts on your computer and your mobile device in sync.

 Note   BlackBerry, Palm, and iPhone devices are currently not supported by Microsoft. Business Contact information can be synchronized with Blackberry, Palm, or iPhone devices only if you use a third-party product. For more information, see the section, Synchronize Business Contact information with BlackBerry, Palm, and iPhone devices.

To synchronize your Business Contacts with your smartphone or Pocket PC running Windows Mobile 5.0, Windows Mobile 6.0, or Windows Mobile 6.1, you must first install Business Contacts for your device. Click one of the following links to download and install Business Contacts from the Microsoft Download Center:

 Note   Business Contacts for Smartphone and Business Contacts for Pocket PC mobile devices may not be available in all languages or locales.

Synchronize Business Contact data with your mobile device

In Windows XP, complete the following procedure to synchronize your business data.

 Note   You must set up a partnership between your computer and your mobile device. For more information about how to synchronize data with your mobile device, see ActiveSync Help.

  1. Open Microsoft ActiveSync.

 Tip   To synchronize data with your mobile device, your computer must be running Microsoft ActiveSync 4.1 or later.

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. Select the Business Contacts check box, and then click OK.
  3. Click the Sync button.

In Windows Vista, complete the following procedure to synchronize your business data.

 Note   You must set up a partnership between your computer and your mobile device. If you want to synchronize a Windows Mobile device, you must download and install Windows Mobile Device Center software. For more information about how to synchronize data with your mobile device, see Windows Vista Help: Sync Center in Windows Vista online Help.

  1. On the Start menu, click All Programs, and then click Accessories.
  2. Click Sync Center.
  3. Click your mobile device, and then follow the instructions on your screen.

 Note   Business Contacts are separate from Outlook contacts.

Communication history items that are synchronized along with Business Contacts

The following communication history items (communication history item: An item such as an appointment, business note, e-mail message, file, or task that is linked to an Account, Business Contact, Opportunity, or Business Project.) that are associated with a Business Contact can also be synchronized on your smartphone or Pocket PC:

  • Phone log
  • Opportunities
  • Tasks
  • Appointments
  • E-mail messages
  • Business notes

Synchronize Business Contact information with BlackBerry, Palm, and iPhone devices

 Note   BlackBerry, Palm, and iPhone devices are not supported by Microsoft. Business Contact information can be synchronized with Blackberry, Palm, or iPhone devices only if you use a third-party product.

There are third-party products, such as those by CompanionLink Software, that enable you to synchronize your business data with BlackBerry, Palm, and iPhone devices.
