Move an object

  1. Select the object (object: A table, chart, graphic, equation, or other form of information. Objects created in one application, for example spreadsheets, and linked or embedded in another application are OLE objects.), multiple selection (multiple selection: The process of selecting nonadjacent and adjacent files and objects.), or group (group: A collection of objects that behave as one for the purpose of moving, resizing, or rotating them. A group can be composed of multiple sets of groups.) that you want to move.
  2. Drag the object to its new location.

Tips

  • To constrain an object so that it moves only horizontally or vertically, hold down SHIFT while you drag the object.
  • If objects won't move where you want them to, the Snap objects to grid option may be selected (View menu, Grids and Guides command). This option, which is on by default, aligns objects to the nearest intersection of the grid (grid: A set of intersecting lines used to align objects.) as you move them. To temporarily turn this option off, hold down ALT while you drag the object.
