Measure the precise distance between objects
 
  1. If they are not displayed, turn on guides (guides: Nonprinting straight lines, both horizontal and vertical, used to visually align objects.).

    ShowHow?

    1. Click Grid and Guides on the View menu.
    2. Select or clear the Display drawing guides on screen check box.
  2. Position a guide where you want to begin measuring.

  3. Press SHIFT as you drag the guide to where you want to stop measuring.

    As you drag, the measurement appears over an arrow on the guide. The measurement disappears when you release the mouse button.
