Display an icon, text or both on a menu command or button
 

You can rearrange and modify toolbar buttons, menus, and menu commands by using the mouse or you can use the Rearrange Commands dialog box which is accessible using a keyboard menu. These tasks are identified as (keyboard accessible).

Do one or more of the following:

ShowDisplay an icon and text, or text only, on a menu command

  1. On the Tools menu, click Customize.
  2. If the menu (menu: A list of commands that is displayed when you click a menu name on a menu bar or other toolbar.) command you want to change is on a toolbar, make sure that the toolbar you want to change is visible.

    ShowHow?

    1. In the Customize dialog box, click the Toolbars tab.
    2. Select the check box for the toolbar you want to display.
  3. In the Customize dialog box, click the Commands tab.
  4. With the Customize dialog box open, click the menu that contains the command you want to change.
  5. Click the command you want to change.
  6. In the Customize dialog box, click Modify Selection, and then click the option you want on the shortcut menu.

    Notes

    • Some commands don't have icons associated with them and can only be displayed as text.
    • A menu command can't be displayed as an icon only, unless you change the command to a toolbar button. If you select the Default Style option on the shortcut menu and then copy or move the command to a toolbar, the command is displayed as an icon on the toolbar.

  1. On the Tools menu, click Customize.
  2. If the menu (menu: A list of commands that is displayed when you click a menu name on a menu bar or other toolbar.) command you want to change is on a toolbar, make sure that the toolbar you want to change is visible.

    ShowHow?

    1. In the Customize dialog box, click the Toolbars tab.
    2. Select the check box for the toolbar you want to display.
  3. In the Customize dialog box, click the Commands tab.
  4. Click Rearrange Commands.
  5. If the menu you want to change is on the menu bar, click Menu Bar and then click the menu you want in the Menu Bar list.

    If the menu you want to change is on a toolbar, click Toolbar, and then click the menu that you want in the Toolbar list. For example, click Drawing|AutoShapes to change a command on the AutoShapes menu on the Drawing toolbar.

  6. In the Controls list, click the menu command you want to change.
  7. Click Modify Selection, and then click the option you want on the shortcut menu.

    Notes

    • Some commands don't have icons associated with them and can only be displayed as text.

Note  You can't change the text or icon on a button that displays a list or menu when clicked.
