Delete a toolbar or menu

Applies to: Microsoft Office Excel 2003, FrontPage 2003, InfoPath 2003, OneNote 2003, Outlook 2003, PowerPoint 2003, Publisher 2003, Word 2003

You can rearrange and modify toolbar buttons, menus, and menu commands by using the mouse or you can use the Rearrange Commands dialog box which is accessible using a keyboard menu. These tasks are identified as (keyboard accessible).

Do one or more of the following:

Show Delete a custom toolbar

On the Tools menu, click Customize, and then click the Toolbars tab.
In the Toolbars box, select the custom toolbar you want to delete.
Click Delete.

Note You can't delete a built-in toolbar (built-in toolbar: A toolbar included with Microsoft Office programs; it is not created by the user.). When you select a built-in toolbar, the Reset button appears, which when clicked restores the toolbar to its default buttons, menus, and submenus (submenu: A menu that appears when a user points to a command on a higher-level menu.).

Show Delete a menu from a toolbar

On the Tools menu, click Customize.
Make sure the toolbar you want to change is visible.
How?
1. In the Customize dialog box, click the Toolbars tab.
2. Select the check box for the toolbar you want to display.
With the Customize dialog box open, drag the menu (menu: A list of commands that is displayed when you click a menu name on a menu bar or other toolbar.) you want to delete off the toolbar.
In the Customize dialog box, click Close.

Show Tip

When you delete a built-in menu (built-in menu: A menu included with Microsoft Office; it is not created by the user.), the menu is still in the Customize dialog box. However, when you delete a custom menu, it is permanently deleted. To remove a custom menu and save it for later use, create a toolbar for storing unused menus, move the menu to this storage toolbar, and then hide the storage toolbar.

On the Tools menu, click Customize.
Make sure the toolbar you want to change is visible.
How?
1. In the Customize dialog box, click the Toolbars tab.
2. Select the check box for the toolbar you want to display.
In the Customize dialog box, click the Commands tab.
Click Rearrange Commands.
To delete a menu on the menu bar, click Toolbar, and then click Menu Bar in the Toolbar list.
To delete a menu on a toolbar, click Toolbar, and then click the toolbar that contains the menu in the Toolbar list.
In the Controls list, click the menu you want to delete.
Click Delete.

Note When you delete a built-in menu (built-in menu: A menu included with Microsoft Office; it is not created by the user.), the menu is still in the Customize dialog box. However, when you delete a custom menu, it is permanently deleted.
