Insert outline text for a PowerPoint presentation from another file

When you insert an outline into Microsoft Office PowerPoint from .doc, .rtf, or .txt files, the resulting text is formatted based on heading styles set in the source document. If the source document contains no heading styles (such as, for example, a .txt file that contains only plain text), PowerPoint creates an outline based on paragraphs.

When you insert outline text from an .htm document, you retain the source heading structure; but all the text from the file appears within one text box on a slide.

Do one of the following:

ShowCreate a new presentation based on text from another file

  1. In PowerPoint, on the File menu, click Open.
  2. In the Files of type box, click All outlines.
  3. In the file list, double-click the document you want to use.

Note  You can insert text from a .doc, .rtf, or .txt file.

ShowSend text from Microsoft Office Word to a new presentation

  1. In Word, open the document from which you want to send text.
  2. On the File menu, point to Send To, and then click Microsoft Office PowerPoint.

Note  You can send text from a .doc, .rtf, .txt, or .htm file.

ShowInsert text into an existing presentation

  1. In the lower left corner of the PowerPoint window, click Normal View Button image, and then click the Outline tab.

If the Outline tab is hidden, restore it.

    ShowHow?

    • In the lower left corner of the PowerPoint window, click Normal View (Restore panes) Button image, and then click the Outline tab.
  2. Click the slide icon that you want the inserted outline text to appear after.
  3. On the Insert menu, click Slides from Outline.
  4. In the Insert Outline dialog box, locate the file from which you want to insert text to your presentation.
  5. Double-click the file to insert the text.

Note  You can insert text from a .doc, .rtf, .txt, or .htm file. The text from the .htm file appears on a single slide, in a text box.
