Automatically update a paragraph style

  1. If the Styles and Formatting task pane (task pane: A window within an Office application that provides commonly used commands. Its location and small size allow you to use these commands while still working on your files.) is not open, click Styles and Formatting Button image on the Formatting toolbar (toolbar: A bar with buttons and options that you use to carry out commands. To display a toolbar, press ALT and then SHIFT+F10.).
  2. Right-click the style you want to have Microsoft Word automatically update.
  3. Click Modify.
  4. Select the Automatically update check box.

From now on, Word will automatically redefine the style you selected whenever you apply manual formatting to any paragraph with this style.
