Hide or show the Office Assistant

You can show the Office Assistant while you're working, or you can hide the Office Assistant and use only the <Program Name> Help task pane.

ShowHide or show the Office Assistant

  • On the Help menu, click Hide the Office Assistant or Show the Office Assistant.

To turn on or off Office Assistant Help with wizards, do one of the following:

ShowShow or hide the Assistant for only one wizard

  • Start the wizard, and then click Button image in the wizard.

Note  If the Office Assistant is not showing, clicking Button image will turn on the Assistant.

ShowShow or hide the Assistant for all wizards

  1. In the Office Assistant balloon, click Options.

    If the Office Assistant isn't visible, click Show the Office Assistant on the Help menu.

    If the Office Assistant balloon isn't visible, click the Assistant.

  2. On the Options tab, select or clear the Help with wizards check box.

To permanently remove the Office Assistant, you can uninstall it using the Setup program.

ShowRemove the Office Assistant

  1. Quit all programs.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • If you are using Microsoft Windows 2000, double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon in Control Panel.
    • If you are using Microsoft Windows XP, click Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel.
  3. In the Currently installed programs box, click the listing for Office or your Microsoft Office program, and then click Change.
  4. In the Maintenance Mode Options Setup dialog box, select the Add or Remove Features option, and then click Next.
  5. In the Custom Setup Setup dialog box, select the Choose advanced customization of applications check box, and then click Next.
  6. In the Advanced Customization Setup dialog box, click the expand indicator (+) next to Office Shared Features.
  7. Click the arrow next to Office Assistant, and then click Not Available.

Note  Not all wizards have Help provided by the Assistant.
