Working with smart tags
I don't know how to turn off smart tags in my
presentations.
-
On the
Tools menu, click
AutoCorrect Options, and then
click the
Smart Tags tab.
-
Clear the
Label text with smart tags
check box.
I copied and pasted text with smart tags, but the smart tags don't show
up in my presentation.
Smart tags (smart tags: Data recognized and labeled as a particular type. For example, a person's name or the name of a recent Microsoft Outlook e-mail message recipient is a type of data that can be recognized and labeled with a smart tag.) are not included with text copied and pasted into Microsoft PowerPoint.
PowerPoint will label text with smart tags if smart tags are turned on in your presentation. To turn on smart tags, do the following:
-
On the
Tools menu, click
AutoCorrect Options, and then
click the
Smart Tags tab.
-
Select the Label text with smart tags check box.
The proofing icon is still on the status bar
even though I turned off the automatic spelling checker.
When the spelling checker option is turned off, the checker continues to run in order to recognize smart
tags (smart tags: Data recognized and labeled as a particular type. For example, a person's name or the name of a recent Microsoft Outlook e-mail message recipient is a type of data that can be recognized and labeled with a smart tag.).
If you want the spelling checker to be completely turned off, you also need to turn off smart
tags.
-
On the
Tools menu, click
AutoCorrect Options, and then
click the
Smart Tags tab.
-
Clear the
Label text with smart tags
check box.
My document file size is larger when I save
smart tags in my document.
Smart tags (smart tags: Data recognized and labeled as a particular type. For example, a person's name or the name of a recent Microsoft Outlook e-mail message recipient is a type of data that can be recognized and labeled with a smart tag.) increase the file
size. When document size is a concern, turn off the option to save smart
tags.
-
On the
Tools menu, click
AutoCorrect Options, and then click the
Smart Tags tab.
-
Clear the
Embed smart tags in this presentation check box.
Smart
tags aren't available
Smart tags aren't appearing in my slide show presentation.
Smart tags don't appear in Slide Show view.
My smart tags disappeared when I saved the presentation in an earlier version of PowerPoint.
If you save a Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003 presentation in a format used in an earlier version of PowerPoint, your smart tags will not appear in the earlier version of the product. However, the smart tags will appear if you open the presentation again in Office PowerPoint 2003.
My smart tags don't show up when I view my presentation on the Web.
Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003 does not support smart tags viewed in Internet Explorer.
I permanently removed a smart
tag that I needed.
In the case that you mistakenly delete a specific
smart tag (smart tags: Data recognized and labeled as a particular type. For example, a person's name or the name of a recent Microsoft Outlook e-mail message recipient is a type of data that can be recognized and labeled with a smart tag.), you can contact your Information
Technology (IT) professional or do the following:
- Navigate to directory:
drive\Documents and
Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Smart
Tags\Exceptions
- Right-click Ignore.xml, and open the file using Notepad.
- Browse through the file until you find the entry for the smart tag data
that is mistakenly not recognized and delete all text starting with the first
<ST:item> before it, and ending with
the next
</ST:item> after it (including the
tags).
I don't see smart tags when I type a name not recognized by the English language.
If
you are working in a language other than English, the name of any person you
send an e-mail message to in Microsoft Outlook will later be recognized in Microsoft
Office PowerPoint 2003 as a person name smart
tag (smart tags: Data recognized and labeled as a particular type. For example, a person's name or the name of a recent Microsoft Outlook e-mail message recipient is a type of data that can be recognized and labeled with a smart tag.).
I don't see smart tags when I type a date.
Smart tags only recognize dates after 1970.
