Remove languages and fonts that you don't use

If there are languages or fonts that you no longer work with in Microsoft Office, you can simplify the appearance of your user interface and free memory by turning off editing for those languages and deleting those fonts.

Note   For information about what (limited support) means, see What does limited support mean.

If you have Outlook Express 6.0 and installed the 2007 Microsoft Office system but French is the only available spell check language, you need to use a third-party spell checker. For more information, see Spell checking issues with Outlook Express 6.0.

What do you want to do?

Remove editing for languages that you don't use

Important   If a language is listed as your primary language, you cannot remove it from the Enabled editing languages list until you select a different language as the primary language.

  1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft Office, point to Microsoft Office Tools, and then click Microsoft Office 2007 Language Settings.
  2. Click the Editing Languages tab.
  3. In the Enabled editing languages list, click a language that you want to remove, and then click Remove.

Repeat this step for each additional language that you want to remove.

If your document contains text in the language that you want to remove, the text remains in the document until you delete it. Similarly, if your document contains text whose language was manually identified, that setting remains even if you delete that language from the list of Enabled editing languages. For information about how to enable editing languages and manually setting the language of text in a document, see Type or edit text in another language.
