Symptoms
Your picture (picture: A file (such as a metafile) that you can ungroup and manipulate as two or more objects or a file that stays as a single object (such as bitmaps).) or clip (clip: A single media file, including art, sound, animation, or movies.) does not display properly, or a red X appears instead.
Resolution
Do one of the following:
- When you insert or drag a picture or motion clip into your document, and you do not have a graphics filter installed for that clip, you may see an image of a red X instead of your picture or motion clip.
See the information in the dialog box that appears for information about how to
resolve the issue. For example, you may be prompted to install a graphics filter to view the picture or clip.
You may also receive an error message if the existing graphics import filter is missing, corrupted, or incompatible. For more information, see I get a missing or corrupt graphics filter or media player error message?
- If you sent your document through e-mail or copied it to a network file server, and your picture or clip is linked (linked object: An object that is created in a source file and inserted into a destination file, while maintaining a connection between the two files. The linked object in the destination file can be updated when the source file is updated.) and not embedded (embedded object: Information (object) contained in a source file and inserted into a destination file. Once embedded, the object becomes part of the destination file. Changes you make to the embedded object are reflected in the destination file.), send the picture or clip files through e-mail with your document, or copy the picture or clip files to the same network file folder that contains your document.
Tip In Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007, you can use the Package for CD
feature to update the links and bundle the associated files.
