In order for Windows SharePoint Services and SQL Server Reporting Services to work correctly on the same computer, you also must modify the Web configuration file that is used by Windows SharePoint Services.
To configure Windows SharePoint Services to work with Reporting Services - Open the Windows SharePoint Services Web.config file. By default, the Windows SharePoint Services Web.config file is located at C:\Inetpub\wwwroot. You can use Notepad to open and edit the file.
- Add the following entry under the HttpModules configuration element if it does not already exist.
<add name="Session" type="System.Web.SessionState.SessionStateModule"/>
This entry might already exist, but it might be contained within XML comment delimiters, <!-- and -->. If this is the case, you only have to delete the comment delimiters.
- In addition to adding the session state module, you must also enable session state for the pages element by changing the enableSessionState attribute from false to true. The entry in the configuration file should look like the following:
<pages enableSessionState="true" enableViewState="true" enableViewStateMac="true" validateRequest="false" />
- Save the Web.config file.
For more information, see Troubleshooting a Side-by-Side Installation of Reporting Services and Windows SharePoint Services.
Installing Business Scorecard Manager Server
After the prerequisite software has been installed, you are ready to install Business Scorecard Manager Server.
To install Business Scorecard Manager Server - On the Microsoft Office Business Scorecard Manager 2005 opening setup screen, click Install Business Scorecard Server. The installation wizard opens.
- On the Welcome to the Business Scorecard Manager Server Setup Wizard page, click Next.
- On the End-User License Agreement page, select the I accept the terms in the license agreement check box, and then click Next.
- On the Choose Setup Type page, select Custom, and then click Next.

- On the Custom Setup page, do the following:
Important Do not enable the installation of Web Part Interface for Alerts or Web Service Alerts. These features are not compatible with Microsoft SQL Server 2005.
- If the Feature Requirements Analysis page opens, it means that the installation of Business Scorecard Manager cannot be completed. Examples of typical problems are:
- One or more software prerequisites are missing.
- A SharePoint site is not available.
- You do not have the appropriate permissions for the task on this computer.
Review the checklist, and click Cancel to stop the installation wizard. Take the appropriate corrective action, and then try the Business Scorecard Manager installation again.
- On the Web Parts page, in the SharePoint extended site list, select the SharePoint site that you want to use for displaying Business Scorecard Manager scorecards and report views, and then click Next.

- On the Web Service page, provide the following information:
- Under Application pool, select the application pool to which the Business Scorecard Manager Web service is to be assigned. The account that the selected application pool uses must have the Log on as a service right and also permissions to access any scorecard data sources that are to be used.
Note Both the account that the Business Scorecard Manager Web service application pool uses and the account that the Windows SharePoint Services application pool uses must be given read-only access to all data sources. For SQL Server 2005 data sources, you can add the accounts to the built-in db_datareader database role. For Analysis Services data sources, you must create a read-only role, and then add the accounts to that role.
- Under Site name, type the name that you want to use for the Business Scorecard Manager Web service. This is not a Web site in the usual sense, and it is not needed by end users.
- Under Port, type the port number that is to be used to access the Business Scorecard Manager Web service. The port is used for publishing scorecards in Business Scorecard Builder and is not needed by end users.
Note In most cases, you can accept the default values that are supplied by the wizard. The Web Service parameters all can be changed later by using IIS Manager.
When you are ready, click Next.

- On the Database Information page, provide the following information:
- Under Database server, type the name of the server computer that is running SQL Server 2005 where you want to create the Business Scorecard Manager metadata database. In the case of single-server topology, this is the name of the computer on which you are performing the installation.
Note Even though you are installing to the local instance of SQL Server 2005, the default value localhost will not work when SQL Server 2005 has not been configured to accept remote connections (the default). Either enter the actual name of the server (for example, myserver), or configure SQL Server 2005 to accept remote connections. For security reasons, you should configure SQL Server 2005 to accept remote connections only if this is absolutely necessary for your deployment needs.
- Under Database name, type the name of the database that you want to use for storing scorecard metadata.
- Under Type the user name or the name of the security group to which you are assigning administrator privileges, type the name of the user or group to which you are assigning administrator privileges. This user or group will be assigned to the Scorecard Server Administrator role on the Business Scorecard Manager server and will be able to configure additional permissions after installation is complete.
When you are ready, click Next.
- On the Ready to Install? page, click Install.
- On the Business Scorecard Manager Server Setup Complete page, click Finish to close the wizard.

Installing Business Scorecard Builder
Before you install Business Scorecard Builder, you should know the URL of the server that hosts the Business Scorecard Manager Web service and the port on which the service is listening. Note Although this document discusses the installation of all Business Scorecard Manager components and applications on a single computer, in a production environment, you would install Business Scorecard Builder on a separate client computer. Business Scorecard Builder can be installed on a computer running Microsoft Windows Server 2003 SP1 or Microsoft Windows XP SP2.
To install Business Scorecard Builder - In the Microsoft Office Business Scorecard Manager 2005 opening screen, click Install Business Scorecard Builder.
- On the Welcome to the Business Scorecard Builder Setup Wizard page, click Next.

- On the Choose Setup Type page, click Recommended, and then click Next.

- On the Ready to Install? page, click Install.
- On the Business Scorecard Builder Setup Complete page, click Finish to close the wizard.

To configure the host and the port of the Business Scorecard Manager Web service - Start Business Scorecard Builder, and then on the Tools menu, click Server Administration.
- In the Server Name box, type the URL for the server computer that hosts the Business Scorecard Manager Web service. The URL consists of a host name and a port number (for example, http://myserver:46786).
- Click Connect. You must successfully connect to the Business Scorecard Manager Web service before the setting is saved.
Note Business Scorecard Manager is subject to the connection settings that are specified in Internet Explorer. For example, if Internet Explorer is configured to use a proxy server, Business Scorecard Builder uses this proxy server to connect to the Business Scorecard Manager Web service.
- Click OK to close the dialog box.
