My movie keeps stopping during playback

Applies to
Microsoft Office PowerPoint® 2003

Symptoms

A movie in your presentation does not play smoothly. It repeatedly halts, or stops and starts, during playback.

Cause

The computer that you are playing the presentation on might not have adequate memory (RAM) to play the movie smoothly. Other factors that can affect playback include the type of computer processor and its speed, as well as the RPM speed of the computer's hard disk.

The file format can also affect playback.

Resolution

Try any of the following:

  • It may help to make the movie image smaller by setting it to the best scale for a presentation:
    1. Click the movie to select it.
    2. On the Format menu, click Picture, and then click the Size tab.
    3. Select the Best scale for slide show check box, and then click Reset.
  • For better overall performance, copy the movie file to the presentation directory, and then play the movie directly from the presentation directory, rather than from a CD or a network.
  • If you have a movie editing program, such as Microsoft Windows Movie Maker, you can try importing the video and converting the video into another format.
