Type Titles and Bullet Points in the Outline

In the outline pane, you can see the structure of your whole presentation. Having your entire presentation available in this way helps you stay focused on the main points you want to get across. You can rearrange, add, and delete titles and bullet points as you reshape your message.

Each slide is indicated with a number next to the title. Bullet points appear under each slide title. The slide pane shows the current slide as you move the cursor through the outline.

Typing and moving text in Normal view

It's worthwhile to know some basic keys for working in the outline. While you can rearrange text in the outline pane by clicking slide icons and bullet items and dragging them to their new location, some people find it easier to use keys while they are typing - you don't have to shift your hands from the keyboard to the mouse or other pointing device as often.

To do this Do this
Begin typing an outline Click in the outline pane and type the text you want.
Start a new line Press ENTER.
Indent text On a new line, press TAB.
For existing text, move the cursor to the title or bullet point you want to indent, and then press TAB.
Remove indenting (also called "promoting" text). For example, change a bullet point to a slide title. On a new line, press SHIFT+TAB.
For existing text, move the cursor to the bullet point you want change, and then press SHIFT+TAB.
Move up or down a page Press PAGE UP or PAGE DOWN.
Move up or down a line Press the UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW keys.
Select text Press SHIFT+LEFT ARROW or SHIFT+RIGHT ARROW.

To cut, copy, and paste text, use the standard Windows® shortcut keys: CTRL+C to copy, CTRL+X to cut, and CTRL+V to paste.
