Using a unit of measurement other than inches in Word

Applies to
Microsoft Word 97 and 2000

The rulers and dialog boxes in Word use inches as the default unit of measurement. However, if you use the metric system, you may want the rulers and dialog boxes to display centimeters rather than inches. If you are a desktop publishing professional, you may want to use picas or points instead of inches.

Change the unit of measurement

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the General tab.
  2. In the Measurement units box, click the option you want.
