Insert leaders in Word

Microsoft Word 97 and 2000

You can insert leader characters such as a dotted, dashed, or solid line in Word documents to draw the reader's eye across space in a line. For example:

Cash .................................................. $500,000

Office equipment .................................... $200,000

To insert leader characters

  1. Position the cursor on the line where you want to insert leader characters before a tab stop.
  2. On the Format menu, click Tabs.
  3. In the Tab stop position box, type the position for a new tab, or select an existing tab stop to which you want to add leader characters.
  4. Under Alignment, select the alignment for text typed at the tab stop.
  5. Under Leader, click the leader option you want.
  6. Click Set, and then click OK.
  7. Enter text, press TAB to insert leader characters, and then enter text at the tab stop.
