After the Office 2000 installer program removes files and settings from previously installed versions of Office, you may find that other unneeded files remain on your computer.
You can use the Office Removal Wizard to regain some hard disk space by removing those unneeded files after you run the Office 2000 installer program. The Office Removal Wizard is included in the Office 2000 Resource Kit.
Examples of when to use the Office Removal Wizard
Situations in which it makes sense to run the Office Removal Wizard as a stand-alone utility include the following:
- Before you upgrade to Office 2000, to clean up all existing files related to Office.
- When you upgrade gradually. For example, if you upgrade to Microsoft Word 2000 before upgrading to the rest of Office 2000, you can remove previously installed versions of Word only.
- When upgrading to Office 2000 replaces the need for a custom program that your organization may have created. You can use the wizard to remove the custom program.
Select what you want to remove
You can run the Office Removal Wizard in one of three modes, depending on the degree to which you want to clean up your hard disk:
Safe mode removes only components that are no longer needed.
Safe mode with user discretion runs in safe mode, but allows you to select which detected programs to keep and which to delete.
Aggressive mode removes all components related to Office, including components shared by more than one Office program.
