Microsoft Office Proofing Tools is a collection of tools, such as spelling and grammar checkers, thesauri, and AutoCorrect lists, that help you create and edit Office documents in the language of your choice.

Building on what's already built in

Your version of Microsoft Office already comes with built-in proofing tools for commonly used languages. For example, the English version of Office includes proofing tools for French and Spanish, as well as English.

By installing Office Proofing Tools, you add those same capabilities for many more languages. This makes it even easier to quickly and accurately enter and edit text in the languages you want, creating powerful, professional and error-free documents.

What's included with Office Proofing Tools?

When you install Office Proofing Tools, the following tools are added to most Office programs:

• Spelling checkers and their accompanying dictionaries, along with grammar and writing style checkers. When you install these tools for a particular language, you can be sure that text in that language is correctly spelled and grammatically correct.
• Thesauri for checking synonyms in different languages.
• Hyphenators to ensure that text breaks correctly in each language.
• AutoCorrect lists that enable you to automatically detect and correct typos, incorrect capitalization, and other mistakes.
• AutoSummarize capabilities, for identifying the key points in a document.

In addition, Office Proofing Tools includes the following utilities, which are particularly useful if you work with East Asian or right-to-left languages:

• Input Method Editors (IMEs) for Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. An Input Method Editor (IME) is a program that allows you to enter Asian text in programs by converting your keystrokes into Asian characters.
• Word breakers (for languages that don't use blank spaces to delineate words).
• Simplified/Traditional Chinese translator.
• Tools for working with Korean text, such as a Hangul Hanja converter and Hanja dictionary.
• Additional bilingual dictionaries.
