Add alternative text to a graphic (alt text)

Alternative text (alternative text: Used by Web browsers to display text during image downloads for users who have graphics turned off and for users who rely on screen-reading software to convert graphics on the screen to spoken words.) can display for graphics, depending on the browser, when the graphic is downloading, when it can't be found, or when a site visitor moves the pointer over it.

  1. In Page view, at the bottom of the document window, click Design Button image.
  2. Right-click the graphic, click Picture Properties on the shortcut menu, and then click the General tab.
  3. Under Alternative representations, in the Text box, type the alternative text for the graphic.
