Add a password field to a form

The password field is a text box in which you enable password field functionality.

Important

  1. In Page view, at the bottom of the document window, click Design Button image.

  2. Do one or both of the following:

    ShowAdd a text box

    1. Click in the form or on the page where you want to add the password field.
    2. On the Insert menu, point to Form, and then click Textbox.

Note  If you have not started with a form, by default, Microsoft FrontPage automatically creates a form area with Submit and Reset buttons and inserts the field inside that form area. If FrontPage does not automatically create a form area, the default setting has been changed, and you can reset it.

      ShowHow?

      1. On the Tools menu, click Page Options, and then click the General tab.
      2. Locate and select the Automatically enclose form fields within a form check box.

    3. Next to the text box, type a label for that box.

ShowSet the properties of a password field

    1. Double-click the text box.
    2. In the Name box, type a name to identify the password field.

This internal name, which is not shown on the form, identifies the password field in the form results. It will be visible to the site visitor on the default confirmation page, which is displayed when you use a form handler (form handler: A program on a server that is executed when a site visitor submits a form. A form in FrontPage is associated with a form handler.) rather than a custom script.

    3. If you want text to appear in the text box when a site visitor first opens the form, type the text in the Initial value box.
    4. In the Width in characters box, type a number indicating how many characters wide you want the box to be.
    5. Beside Password field, click Yes .

Security  Selecting this option does not encrypt data that is typed in the password text box.

    6. Click the Style button to access other options for formatting your form by using cascading style sheets (cascading style sheets (CSS): Declarations, either embedded in a Web page or stored in a separate .css file that is linked to a Web page, that specify the appearance of particular HTML elements.) as an inline style (inline style: A method of applying cascading style sheet properties and values to an element on a page, such as a table. You can use this method even if the page is not linked to an external style sheet or does not contain an embedded style sheet.).
