If the Shared Borders command does not appear or appears dimmed on the Format menu, do one of the following:
The Shared Borders command does not appear on the Format menu
By default, Shared Borders no longer appears on the Format menu in FrontPage 2003. This is because the Shared Borders functionality has been replaced by Dynamic Web Templates (DWTs). However, you can still use the Shared Borders feature by adding the command to the Format menu.
- On the Tools menu, click Customize.
- In the Customize dialog box, click the Commands tab.
- Click the Format menu. The Format menu will continue to be displayed even when you move your mouse pointer away from it.
- In the Customize dialog box, in the Categories list, select Format.
- In the Commands list, locate and click the Shared Borders command.
- Drag the Shared Borders entry to the Format menu.
- In the Customize dialog box, click Close.
- Click the Format menu to verify that the Shared Borders command is there.
The Shared Borders command appears dimmed
The Shared Borders command may appear on the Format menu, but it could be unavailable because of other settings. Because Shared Borders is a FrontPage Web component, you need to make sure that Author-Time Web Components are activated.
- On the Tools menu, click Page Options.
- In the Page Options dialog box, click the Authoring tab.
- Select both the Author-Time Web Components and the Shared Borders check boxes, and then click OK.
The Shared Borders command still appears dimmed
If activating the Author-Time Web Components doesn't make the Shared Borders option available on the Format menu, check your server settings (or work with your server administrator) and do the following:
- On the Tools menu, click Server, and then click Administration Home.
Note If the Server command appears dimmed on the Tools menu, this indicates that you don’t have permission to access the server. In this case, contact your server administrator for assistance.
- If, under Users And Roles, you see Using Same Permissions As Parent Web, do one of the following:
- Open the parent of the current Web site and restart at step 1 of this procedure.
- Change the subweb permissions by clicking Change Subweb Permissions, then clicking Use Unique Permissions For This Web Site, and then clicking Submit.
- Under Users And Roles, click Manage Roles.
- On the Manage Roles page, click the name of the role that will have permission to use the Shared Borders command.
- On the Edit Role page, under Web Design Rights, select the Border Web check box, and then click Submit.
- On the File menu, click Close Site, and then reopen the site in FrontPage. The new settings should now be in effect.
