Back up and restore Web sites created with Windows SharePoint Services
 

ShowBack up a Web site created with Windows SharePoint Services

  1. On the Tools menu, click Server, and then click Backup Web Site to open the Backup Web Site dialog box.
  2. If you want to include any subsites in your Web site in the backup file, select the check box next to Include subsites in archive, and then click OK. The File Save dialog box opens.
  3. Select the location where you want to store the .fwp file. In the File name box, type the name for the file and then click Save.

To restore a Web site using the Restore Web Site feature, you first need to create a new Web site. The .fwp file will be restored to the new site.

  1. On the File menu, click New. The New task pane opens.
  2. In the New Web site section, click More Web site templates .
  3. In the Web Site Templates dialog box, click the General tab, and then click Empty Web Site.
  4. Under Options, in the Specify the location of the new Web site box, type the location for the new Web site and click OK.
  5. On the Tools menu, click Server, and then click Restore Web Site.
  6. Browse to the location of the .fwp backup file, select the file, and click Open.
  7. In the Restore Web Site dialog box, click OK to confirm that you want to restore the .fwp file to the current empty Web site.
