Browser preview
- To preview an unopened file in a browser, in the Folder List select the file and then press F12.
Cascading style sheets
- To edit the linked cascading style sheet of a document, on the Format menu, click Style Sheet Links, select the style sheet, and then click Edit.
Code editing
- Tired of copying and pasting HTML code? Use FrontPage code snippets instead. On the Tools menu, click Page Options, click the Code Snippets tab, and then click Add.
- To display a list of code snippets in Code view, press CTRL+ENTER.
- To select an entire tag that contains all content in Code view, press CTRL+SHIFT+COLON (:).Ā
- To find the corresponding header or end tag in Code view, press CTRL+SEMICOLON (;).
- To display the Quick Tag Editor in Code view, press CTRL+Q.
- To display the Microsoft Script Editor, press SHIFT+ALT+F11.
- To display the Microsoft Visual Basic Editor, press ALT+F11.
- To display, edit, or run macros in Code view, press ALT+F8.
- To insert an HTML Comment tag in Code view, press CTRL+/
- To find HTML code for a page element, such as text, an image, a table row, or another item in Code view, in Page view, click Design and then select the page element. When you switch back to Code view, the HTML code for the page element is also selected.
- When in Split view, to apply changes you made in Code view to Design view, press F5.
- To display or hide HTML tags in Design view, press CTRL+/.
Create Web sites
- To switch among open Web pages in a site, press CTRL+TAB.
- To show or hide the Folder List, press ALT+F1.
- When you use the Tracing Image feature to design a Web page, we recommend that you wait until you are finished tracing the image to apply background colors. After you apply a background color, you will not be able to see the tracing image.
Data-driven Web functionality
- To share a Web Part with a colleague, save it to a file by doing the following: On the Tools menu, click Save Web Part to.
- To edit the data source queries shown in the data source catalog, browse to the _fpdatasources directory and edit the corresponding .xml file.
- To avoid breaking the hyperlinks when you move a Web site from one computer to another, use the Web Packages feature. When deploying a Web Package, FrontPage automatically fixes all the hyperlinks that point to the new computer.
- To open the catalog of another Web site on the same server and use the data source connections, use the Manage Catalog feature in the Data Source Catalog task pane.
Edit content in a Web page
- To delete one word to the left, press CTRL+BACKSPACE.
- To delete one word to the right, press CTRL+DELETE.
- To show the shortcut menu, press SHIFT+F10.
- To use the keyboard to access menu bar items, press F10.
- To show the Page Options dialog box, in the status bar in the lower-right corner of the document window, double-click Custom or Default.
- To refresh the current page, press F5.
- To open a file in a different program, right-click the file in the Folder List, click Open With, and then click Choose Program.
- To align text left, select the text, and then press CTRL+L.
- To align text right, select the text, and then press CTRL+R.
- To show or hide HTML tags in Design view, press CTRL+/.
- To show or hide the Folder List, press ALT+F1.
- To show or hide the task pane, press CTRL+F1.
Page layout
- To display, edit, or set table properties, press SHIFT+CTRL+ALT+T.
- To enable or disable layout table tools, press SHIFT+CTRL+ALT+T.
- When you set the properties for borders and corners of a layout cell, apply the corners before you apply the borders. This ensures that the spacing in the header and footer regions is not disturbed.
Publish a Web site
- To quickly view the files you want to publish in your Web site, in Remote Web Site view, on the View drop-down menu on the upper-left side, click Files to publish.
- In Remote Web Site view, to quickly move files between the Local Web site and the Remote Web site, click a file in the source site and drag it to the destination site.
- To open the Remote Web site in Remote Web Site view, under Status, click Open Remote Web site in FrontPage.
Spelling aids
- To display the Thesaurus, press SHIFT+F7.
- To check spelling in a page, press F7.
Views
- When you are working in Split view, to apply changes you made in Code view to Design view, press F5.
- To switch from one Page view to another, press CTRL+PAGEUP or CTRL+PAGEDOWN.
- To display HTML tags in Design view, press CTRL+/.
XML compatibility
- To make an XML file easier to read, on the XML View toolbar, click Reformat XML.
- To ensure that your XML file is well-formed, on the XML View toolbar, click Verify well-formed XML.
