FrontPage 2002: large SharePoint Team Services-based Web sites

When working with a large SharePoint™ team Web site in Microsoft FrontPage® version 2002, it's often easier to organize the site into smaller subwebs. A subweb is a complete SharePoint team Web site that is located in a subdirectory of the root Web site.

For example, a company with a large intranet SharePoint team Web site, can provide each major department its own subweb. That way, each group can manage its own site and the main home page in the parent Web site can provide links between the departmental sites. The work of maintaining a large Web site is spread out with each subweb responsible for maintaining its own Web pages, documents, security settings, and user accounts.

To create a subweb, open a SharePoint team Web site with FrontPage 2002 and edit it directly on the server as follows:

  1. On the Tools menu, point to Server, and then click Administration Home.
  2. On the Site Administration page, under Subwebs, click Create a subweb.
  3. Type a name for the new subweb in the space provided.
  4. Under Permissions, select whether you want the subweb to have the same user accounts and roles information as the current Web site or unique ones. If you choose unique permissions, type the administrator user name.
  5. Under Site Type, specify whether you want the site created as a SharePoint team Web site or as a blank Web site.
  6. Click Submit.

Tip: If your user account has Administrator's role permissions, you can remotely add subwebs to your SharePoint Team Services Web site. To do this, open a browser, go to the Web site, click on Site Settings on the home page and follow steps 2 through 6, above.
