Usage Analysis Reports help you track who visits your Web site by providing a variety of site traffic information. All these usage reports rely on a plain-text log file generated by the Web server that the Web site is hosted on. The Site Administration page lets you enable or disable the collection of this information. You can also specify when, how often, and for how long usage information is collected and kept. To set up and use the Usage Analysis reporting feature, see the article Specify Usage Analysis Settings in Microsoft FrontPage® 2002
To fine-tune Usage Analysis settings, open a Web site in FrontPage 2002, make sure the Web site is published on a Web server running SharePoint™ Team Services or Microsoft FrontPage® 2002 Server Extensions, then do the following:
- On the Tools menu, point to Server, and then click Administration Home.
- On the Site Administration page, select Change usage analysis settings.
- Configure Recurrence settings and Additional Usage Analysis Settings along the following guidelines and click Submit.
- Under Recurrence settings, you can schedule the usage log to be generated at a convenient downtime for your Web site. For example, you might schedule the log to be processed late at night, when demand on the site is lower than during the day. Also, you can schedule the log to be processed on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis, depending on how closely you want to track your site's usage.
- Under Additional Usage Analysis Settings, to limit the size of your reports, you can specify that usage analysis data be automatically deleted after a certain number of months.
- Under Additional Usage Analysis Settings, the default is to process the log file to accumulate data for full days only. If you turn off this option, all hits are processed right up to the time set for processing.
Tip To quickly restore the default usage analysis settings, open the Configure Usage Analysis administration page, click Restore Defaults, and then select Submit.
