Using Reports view in FrontPage 2000 for site management

FrontPage makes Web site management as easy as it makes Web site creation. One of the most useful things that FrontPage offers is the ability to view detailed information about your web site in the Reports view. You can use Reports view to monitor the status of the Web site you created with FrontPage.

Choosing a Report

The reports that you can choose from include:

  • Site Summary
  • All Files
  • Recently Added Files (choose from 0 to 365 days)
  • Recently Changed Files (choose from 0 to 365 days)
  • Older Files (choose from 0 to 365 days)
  • Unlinked Files
  • Slow Pages (choose from 0 to 600 seconds)
  • Broken Hyperlinks
  • Component Errors
  • Review Status (choose from Code Review, Content Review, draft, final, Legal Review, Manager Review)
  • Assigned To (add names to the list and choose from them)
  • Categories (choose from Travel, Expense Report, Business, Competition, Goals/Objectives, Ideas, Miscellaneous, Waiting, VIP, In Process, Planning, Schedule)
  • Publish Status (choose Publish or Don't Publish)

To open Reports view

  1. Open the web for which you want to view reports.
  2. On the Views pane, click the Reports icon.

To choose a report

  • On the View menu, point to Reports and click the report you want. A check mark indicates the report that is currently displayed.

Or

  • On the Views pane, click the Reports icon and then select a report type from the item list in the Reporting box.

To display the Reporting toolbar

  • On the View menu, point to Toolbars and then click Reporting. A check mark indicates the toolbar that is currently displayed.

To hide the Reporting toolbar

  • On the View menu, point to Toolbars and then click Reporting. If it is already checked, the check mark will be removed and the toolbar will disappear.

You can drag the Reporting toolbar to the toolbar in the main window to keep it available permanently or for a specific session. By moving the Reporting toolbar to the main toolbar, it is out of the viewing area of the report itself.

Sorting Information in a Report

You can sort information in a report, except for Site Summary, by any of the columns in that report. For example, in the All Files report, you can sort by Type to group all the GIF files, or you can sort by Size in either ascending or descending size.

To sort information in a report

  1. Click the name of the column.
  2. Click the column name of a sorted column to change the sort order from ascending to descending.
The Site Summary Report

The Site Summary is a good place to start when checking the status of your web. The following figure shows a sample Site Summary report, with the Reporting toolbar open.

Site Summary Report

The Site Summary report serves as a master report. The first column is the Names column. It contains a row for each of the types of reports you can view. For most of the rows, you can double-click the icon in the Names column to display the named report. For example, you can double-click the Hyperlinks icon in the Names column to display the Hyperlinks report. Then, to return to the Site Summary report, click Site Summary on the drop-down list in the Reporting toolbar.

Command Availability

When you work in Reports view, many commands are available to you. The following table lists available commands by menu. No commands from the Insert, Table, and Frames menus are available in Reports view. All Window menu (except More Pages), Tools (except Security), and Help menu commands are available. To use other commands, change to a different view.
