Updated FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions Resource Kit available

The FrontPageĀ® 2000 Server Extensions Resource Kit provides information to help you set up, run, and maintain your FrontPage-extended web (defined below). An updated edition of the FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions Resource Kit is now available. The update explains new configuration variables, includes an updated list of supported Web servers, and includes a few new topics, such as administrative considerations when incorporating databases into FrontPage-based webs. You can download the FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions Resource Kit to your computer.

A FrontPage-extended web is a Web site that has server processing that is provided by FrontPage. This server processing provides capabilities that are available for site visitors when they browse to your site and for FrontPage users when authoring or performing administrative tasks. For example, visitors to a FrontPage-extended web can access databases and perform full-text searches, and Web authors and administrators can set permissions and edit a Web site live on a Web server.

The server processing is handled by the FrontPage Server Extensions, which are a set of programs that you install and run on your Web server. When the FrontPage Server Extensions are running on a Web server, they support authoring and administering FrontPage-extended webs over the Internet or intranet, along with browsing a FrontPage-extended Web site.

To give Web administrators the information they need to install and maintain the FrontPage Server Extensions, the FrontPage 2000 Server Extension Resource Kit is available with FrontPage 2000, Office 2000, the Office Resource Kit, and on the World Wide Web. The FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions Resource Kit is a Web-based document with sections covering:

  • An overview of the server extensions
  • Instructions for setting up and administering the server extensions
  • Information about keeping your Web server computer secure when using the server extensions
  • Advanced administrative tasks, such as configuring a full-text search engine to work with the server extensions

If you purchased Office 2000, you can install the FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions Resource Kit during a custom installation. Expand the Microsoft Office/Microsoft FrontPage for Windows feature tree, and select the Server Extensions Resource Kit feature to be installed on your computer. By default, the FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions Resource Kit is installed in the \Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\40\serk\lcid folder, where lcid is the language ID of the Server Extensions Resource Kit. For example, 1033 is the language ID for U.S. English.
