The following are options for using FrontPage to manage users, groups and roles on various servers configured with Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions or SharePoint Team Services from Microsoft.

  • Browse — The individual user, or users in a group, can browse the files in the web (read access).
  • Author — The individual user, or users in a group, can browse and change the files in a web (read and write access).
  • Administer — The individual user, or users in a group, can browse and change the files in the web, and can also administer the web by adding and removing users (full access).

ShowRoles available with FrontPage 2002 and SharePoint Team Services

The following roles are available by default for Web sites hosted on servers running SharePoint Team Services. Each role gives the user rights to perform specific actions on a Web site or virtual server.

  • Browser — View the pages in the Web site. This role contains the following rights: FrontPage Browse, View Document Discussions, View Lists.
  • Contributor — Participate in document discussions and subscribe to documents or folders. This role contains all Browser rights plus the following rights: Author Document Discussions, Close Document Discussions, Subscribe To Document.
  • Author — Add pages to the Web site and edit tasks and lists. This role contains all Contributor rights plus the following rights: Author Pages, Author Lists.
  • Advanced Author — Edit a Web site in FrontPage. This role contains all Author rights plus the following rights: Border Web, Theme Web, Design Lists, Link Style Sheets, Recalc Web.
  • Administrator — Manage a Web site or virtual server. This role contains all rights.
