Change the style of a list on a SharePoint team Web site

Applies to
Microsoft FrontPage® 2002
SharePoint™ Team Services v1.0 from Microsoft

When you add a list to your Web site based on SharePoint Team Services v1.0 from Microsoft, the default list style (called Basic table) is automatically applied. With FrontPage 2002, you can customize your lists by applying one of 13 other list styles. The following table shows examples of some of the styles available.

Note   A list on a SharePoint team Web site is made up of items. For each item on your list, you can add a column for whatever information you want. For example, you could add a column called Comments, where team members add information, opinions, or other comments about each item on your list. Or you could add a column called Vote, where team members give a thumbs-up or thumbs-down for each item. Add as many columns as necessary to make your list present the information you want.

List Style Description Example
Basic table Default format for lists. Shows a row for each item in your list and a column for each column you add. Basic table
Repeating form Presents each item with its associated columns on separate lines beneath. Repeating form
Comma separated list Presents each item with its associated columns in a comma-separated list beneath. Comma separated list
Bulleted list Presents a bulleted list of the items. Users click an item to see the information in the associated columns. Bulleted list
Numbered list Presents a numbered list of the items. Users click an item to see the information in its associated columns. Numbered list
Dropdown menu Presents a drop-down menu that contains the items. Users choose an item to see the information in its associated columns. Dropdown menu

Apply a style to a list

To apply a new style to a list on your SharePoint team Web site, follow these steps:

  1. In FrontPage 2002, on the File menu, click Open Web.
  2. In the Web name text box, type the address of your site and click Open.
  3. On the View menu, click Folders.
  4. In the Folder List task pane, open the Lists folder and select the list that you want to work with.
  5. In the Contents task pane, double-click the file AllItems.htm.
  6. Right-click any item in the list, and select View Properties on the shortcut menu.

Note  To change the style of a list, you must be in Live Data View, not Layout Customization View. When you right-click a list to begin working with it, you should see Layout Customization View on the shortcut menu. If you see Live Data View on the shortcut menu, click it to change to that view instead.

  7. In the List View Properties dialog box, click Options.
  8. In the View Options dialog box, scroll through the Choose a style preview window to see samples of the available list styles, click the style you want to apply to your list, and then click OK.
  9. In the List View Properties dialog box, click OK, and then on the File menu, click Save.
