Display a gallery of photos on your Web site

Applies to
Microsoft Office FrontPage® 2003

With FrontPage, you can add a collection of photos or other images to your Web site in the form of a photo album or catalog.

Using the Web Component command on the Insert menu in FrontPage, you can add a photo gallery that consists of thumbnail images with text captions and descriptions. By default, the thumbnail images are 100 pixels by 100 pixels in size—a little larger than 1 inch by 1 inch.

Site visitors can easily scan your collection of images in the thumbnail state. They can also click on each thumbnail image to see a full-size image.

When you create a photo gallery, you can add as many photos as you want. You can also add or remove photos any time. You can add photos from a variety of sources, including:

  • Your computer or local Web site
  • The World Wide Web
  • The Microsoft Clip Organizer
  • A scanner
  • A digital camera

Photo gallery layouts

There are four types of photo gallery layouts available in FrontPage: Horizontal, Vertical, Montage, and Slideshow.

Horizontal   Display thumbnails of your photos in horizontal rows, with captions beneath the images.
Vertical   Display thumbnails of your photos in columns, with captions to the right of the images.
Montage   Display thumbnails of your images in a collage-like pattern. When a site visitor rests his or her pointer over the image, caption text is displayed.
Slideshow   Display thumbnails of your images in a row that scrolls across the top. When a site visitor selects a thumbnail image, the full-size image appears below the row.

Edit photos

After you have added the photos to your photo gallery, you can resize, rotate, flip, or crop them. You can also reset any photo to its original state.
