The first time you open or create a server-based Web site in Microsoft FrontPage, temporary files are created on your local hard disk. Temporary files contain information about your Web site, such as the number of files, or whether any hyperlinks are broken.
When you use FrontPage to open a file for editing, the local copy of the file (in the temporary directory on your local hard disk), is the file that is edited.
Because temporary files are stored on your computer, opening the temporary file is quicker and more efficient than reading the information from the Web server.
Notes
- Temporary files are located in the FrontPageTempDir folder. In Windows 2000, FrontPageTempDir is located at <drive>:\Documents and settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp\FrontPageTempDir.
- Temporary files generally begin with the letters wpe, though other extensions are used for some file types. For example, files created by wizards begin with the letters wiz.
