Change the target frame

  1. In Page view, at the bottom of the document window, click Design Button image.
  2. Select the text or picture that you are using as a hyperlink, and then click Insert Hyperlink button image on the Standard toolbar.
  3. In the Insert Hyperlink dialog box, click Target Frame, and then do one of the following:

ShowChoose a target frame specifically within your current frames page

In the Target Frame dialog box, the Current frames page area shows a map of your frames page. Click the frame that you would like to set as the target frame.

ShowChoose a target frame within your current frames page or open a new window outside of your frames page

In the Target Frame dialog box, the Common targets list gives you several target frame options. Click one of the following options to select a target frame:

  • Page Default (none)    The hyperlink opens the new document in the same browser window or frame in which the action originated.
  • Same Frame    The hyperlink opens the new document in the same browser window or frame in which the action originated. The target attribute is set to _self. If you use a frames-based site, the _self value overrides the globally assigned, or default, BASE element target.
  • Whole Page    The hyperlink opens the new document in the full window, replacing the entire document rather than opening in the frame in which the action originated. The target attribute is set to _top.
  • New Window    The hyperlink always opens in a new, blank window. The target attribute is set to _blank.
  • Parent Frame    The hyperlink opens in the FRAMESET element parent, or the default frames layout, of the current document. The target attribute is set to _parent. If no parent is designated, the _parent value defaults to the same behavior as the _self attribute (or Same Frame option), and opens in the same window in which the action originated.
  1. Click OK to close the Target Frame dialog box. Click OK again to close the Insert Hyperlink dialog box.
