Apply background colors or images to shared borders

New in Microsoft FrontPage® 2002, is the ability to apply background colors or images to Shared Borders. Shared borders are like headers and footers in Word documents because you only have to modify content in one place to update many pages. With improved Shared Borders, you may want to apply background colors or background images when you have long or wide pages and want one color or image to extend from side to side or top to bottom in a shared border.

To add and modify Shared Borders:

  1. From Page view, on the Format menu, clickShared Borders.
  2. In Shared Borders, select Top, left, Right and Bottom check boxes as desired.
  3. To include navigation buttons, select the Include navigation buttons check box under the border in which you want navigation buttons.
  4. To apply shared borders to your entire Web site, under Apply to:, select All pages, then click OK.
  5. To change the background color of a shared border, right-click in the shared border and select Border Properties from the shortcut menu.
  6. Select the border you want to change by clicking the down arrow in the Border: list box, then select the border to modify.
  7. Select the Color: box and from the drop-down menu next to it, select the color you want.
  8. To add an image, select the Picture: box and enter the path to an image file or click the Browse button to find one.
  9. When you have completed all your changes in Border Properties, click OK.

Tip    To exactly match a shared border color with a color already used in your page such as one in a banner or table background, in Border Properties, click the check box next to Color:. From the drop-down menu next to it, select More Colors, click the color picker (eyedropper icon) Select button. Use the eyedropper to choose a color on your page, click OK, and then click OK again. FrontPage automatically inserts the same color you selected in the shared border. No more guessing which color to use to match to other colors on your pages.
