Add a user to a FrontPage 2003 Web site and set permissions

 Important   

  • You can only perform these procedures on FrontPage 2003 Web sites that are hosted on a server running FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions from Microsoft, SharePoint™ Team Services 1.0 from Microsoft, or Microsoft Windows® SharePoint Services 2.0.
  • To add a user and set permissions to Web sites hosted on non-Microsoft servers, see the vendor of the server you are connected to for details.
  • To add a user to a FrontPage 2003 Web site and set access permissions, you must have administrator privileges on the server hosting the Web site.

Select one of the following, depending on which of the above-mentioned products your server is running:

ShowFrontPage 2002 Server Extensions or SharePoint Team Services 1.0

Do the following:

  1. In FrontPage 2003, on the File menu, click Open Site.
  2. In the Site name box, type the URL (Uniform Resource Locator (URL): An address that specifies a protocol (such as HTTP or FTP) and a location of an object, document, World Wide Web page, or other destination on the Internet or an intranet. For example: http://www.example.com/.) of the Web site, and then click Open.

For example, type: http://servername.com/

  1. On the Tools menu, point to Server, and then click Permissions.
  2. When the password prompt appears, enter your username and password, and then click OK.
  3. On the Site Settings page, click Add a user.
  4. In the User section, type the user's name and password, and confirm the password.
  5. In the User Role section, select one or more roles for the user.

ShowWindows SharePoint Services 2.0

  1. In FrontPage 2003, on the File menu, click Open Site.
  2. In the Site name box, type the URL (Uniform Resource Locator (URL): An address that specifies a protocol (such as HTTP or FTP) and a location of an object, document, World Wide Web page, or other destination on the Internet or an intranet. For example: http://www.example.com/.) of the Web site, and then click Open.

For example, type: http://servername.com/

  1. On the Tools menu, point to Server, and then click Administration Home.
  2. When the password prompt appears, enter your username and password, and then click OK.
  3. On the Site Settings page, under Administration, click Manage users.
  4. On the Manage Users page, click Add Users.
  5. On the Add Users: Team Web Site page, follow Steps 1 and 2, and then click Next and continue with Steps 3 and 4. When you are finished adding users, click Finish.

 Note   When you add a user to a Web site that is hosted on a server running Windows SharePoint Services, that user will use his or her Windows domain account for authentication, so you will not be able to set up a password for that user on this Web server.
