Remove personal Information from a workbook

When you save a workbook, personal information such as your name, company name, the name of the person who saved the workbook last, and more may be saved along with the workbook. To remove this information, do the following:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options, and click the Security tab.
  2. Select the Remove personal information from this file on save check box.
  3. Save the workbook.

    The following personal information is removed from your document:

    • File properties: Author, Manager, Company, Last saved by
    • Name of the last person to unshare (or make exclusive) a shared workbook
    • Routing slips
    • The e-mail message header that's generated with the E-mail button
    • Names associated with a PivotTable report are changed to "Author"
    • Names associated with comments and scenarios are changed to "Author"
    • Paths associated with downloaded components and with smart tags
    • Name of the last person to open the workbook
    • Personal views

Notes

  • Personal information from shared workbooks is not removed. If you want to remove information from a shared workbook, you must first unshare it.
  • Workbooks that contain macros may contain additional personal information that cannot be removed by this procedure.
